Customer Service - first time order over the phone

Don't ever buy a Virgin Mobile phone using one of their live representatives. Just buy it over the internet. I placed an order on October 28th and spent over 20 minutes (gladly) to give all of my details over the phone to the representative who took among other things my credit card information. She placed the order indicating that everything went well and that I would receive it 3-5 business days later. 2 weeks later, nothing! I called back and asked the normal question "why" didn't i receive my phone? Their answer was, "your order was canceled but we don't know why because once the order has been submitted to the sales department it is out of our control." Naturally, my follow up question was "why wasn't i notified about this"? In other words, if I had never called back, I would have never figured out what had happened (i should note, this was a present for someone else and that person was told she would receive it in time for her birthday...and didn't). Their answer to all of my questions was "we're very sorry for the inconvenience but your order was canceled and it is out of our control. You'll have to place the order again but you have to do it online. When I asked to speak to someone about lodging a complaint I got a supervisor who was quite a politician and kept saying "i'm very sorry for the inconvenience" but never explained to me as to why my order was canceled.
I am not upset about the fact that the order was canceled, crap happens...whatever. But, the company not knowing "why" is extremely weird and unacceptable. The company not following with a customer to let them know that their MONEY was not TAKEN because of some problem or another, is rather un-business like. Maybe they didn't want my money. Again, more strange than anything.
